Earth Day Special: Improve Your Home and the Planet With NEXT STEP
As people’s minds turn toward a cleaner planet on Earth Day, the first place many of us should look is at our home and offices. The government estimates that homes and buildings consume 40.5 percent of the total energy spent in this country. A new program called NEXT STEP will actually help homeowners pay to make energy efficient improvements to their house.
This new grant-funded program is also in the process of developing incentives for multi-family residences as well.
The NEXT STEP Program is a Home Performance with Energy Star™ Energy Efficiency Audit & Retrofit Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Grant. It helps connect homeowners interested in saving money and reducing energy use in their homes with qualified, NEXT STEP-approved contractors to perform audits and necessary improvements.
It’s also a great place for contractors looking to expand their business opportunities and provide quality services to Hampton Roads homeowners to get involved as well.
SENCON, which has long served as the area’s leading provider of home energy audits and residential energy improvement services, now administers this important program and directs homeowners seeking such services to the NEXT STEP program.
