Obama Outlines Energy Plan

In a speech on Wednesday, President Barack Obama called for a one-third reduction in U.S. oil imports by 2025. His statements revived a long-running goal of presidents since the early 1970s to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil—a particularly timely concern given unrest in the Middle East and skyrocketing fuel prices.

pumpjackThe Associated Press reports that while Obama said quick fixes and gimmicks won’t solve the crisis, he offered little in the way of new initiatives, falling back instead on a number of energy proposals he has called for in the past. Some of these proposals include boosting domestic oil production, increasing the use of biofuels and natural gas and making vehicles more energy efficient.
